Eat Chocolate?

A good piece of chocolate has about 200 calories.

As I enjoy 2 servings per night, and a few more on weekends, I consume about 3,500 calories of chocolate in a week, which equals one pound of weight per week.

Therefore, in the last 3-1/2 years, I have had chocolate caloric intake of about 180 pounds, and I only weigh 165 pounds.

So… without chocolate, I would have wasted away to nothing about 3 months ago!

I owe my life to chocolate!

Hello and top of the day to you!

What happened in your day today that caused you to smile or feel good? Was it a special food? Did someone hug you and remind you of how much you are loved?

Each day is filled with little events some good some not so good.

I want to focus on the best part of every day.

Today a doctor said something negative. He thought it was funny. I told him he could not do that. I told him if he heard something like gossip from someone not to repeat it cause he was then sending negative vibes out into the world. “You need to focus on saying positive stuff!”

If we look we shall find something which happened in our day that was a pleasure. Some things bring us joy, and some bring us a small smile or even a wee lift and at the end of the day we need to revisit that feeling and rejoice in that feeling and be grateful for that feeling!

I want to hold on to those moments of relishing every morsel of a very delicious dessert! And I want to relive those moments when I felt treasured because someone told me they loved me. Looking for the positives and recalling them seems to send more positivity out into the world. So by thinking about good things we are sharing wonderful energy with others!

Good things in my day today were going to a class at the Apple store and thinking I would be one of four in a class and discovering I had the instructor all to myself. I learned so much!

Good things in my day included a lovely phone call from my oldest daughter, a loving note from my husband and a sweet compliment from a stranger!

Good things in my day included a delicious meal with stuffed salmon and a happy note from a friend! And a big bonus in my day was to be reminded of the healing energy God gives to us.

My day seemed filled with sunshine, because I was able to help someone and she appreciated it which made it even better. The world seemed like a great place to be because three cars stopped for me to allow me to get across a busy street.

I did not win the lottery. I did not get a surprise cheque in the mail, but the events of my day gave me a lift!

Don’t you think we should find simple things to focus on and to celebrate?

I am looking forward to tomorrow!

Idle of the Heart

I continually run into young men who are frustrated at their stage in life in part because of a lack of clarity about their calling, or a lack of opportunity to do what they really want to do.  This frustration leads many to become idle. Inactive if not aimless.

This also leads many to become jobless (or nearly so) while becoming overly dependent on others (parents, friends, credit cards). If you find yourself at this stage I would like to address you, my friends.

No, I’m not going to lecture you about your motives, growing up, or prolonged adolescence, though such things might be issues for you to deal with. I only want to remind you of three truths than can change how you understand and experience this time in your life.

This time is hard, and it is easy to conclude there is little to no value in these days of uncertainty and disappointment. While you are figuring out (or waiting to do) what you are called to do vocationally, know this: you are called by God to work hard now, to share with others, and to love your neighbor.

You Are Called to Work Hard

But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more, and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.(1 Thessalonians 4:10-12, ESV)

This time of waiting should still be a time of working. I know jobs are few and far between, and some of what is available is supremely undesirable–potentially embarrassing even. But to not work now, hard, in whatever capacity God permits, is to miss out on what you are made to do, and called to during these times.

As a man made in the image of God you are made to work. When you work hard you reflect your Maker and can find a satisfaction in the act itself. In Manhood Restored Pastor Eric Mason writes, “We need to be careful here that we don’t miss one of the chief components of being God’s image bearer. As an image bearer, man is to subdue. He is to care and work.”  Working is something you were made to do, so to remain idle is to deny your purpose.

You Are Called to Work Now

So I saw that there is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his work, for that is his lot.(Ecc. 3:22)

I know that working hard in a job that is neither in your area of expertise or interest can be defeating. I’ve been there. But even if you are called to do something different in the future, you can find satisfaction in the work you do now if you fear the Lord and see work as a gift today that will also bear fruit for you later in life.

From the moment I sensed God’s calling to the ministry I was restless. I wanted to serve the church full time, or at least get into Bible College and Seminary. But there were years of waiting. During that time I was a tire buster, a valet, and worked the midnight shift at a gas station (yep, behind the bullet proof glass and everything). I even tried selling china and crystal. Good grief I was terrible at that. These jobs were not what I was ultimately called to do, but they were what I was called to do in the in-between time. We are called to work wherever we are, however God’s provides, and in that we can find satisfaction.

You Are Called to Work for Jesus

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.(Colossians 3:23-24, ESV)

As one who has not only been created by God, but recreated in and through Jesus Christ, we now have the assurance that when we work in that dumpy, go-nowhere, unsatisfying job we are not toiling away for nothing–we are working for our Savior. Your toil brings your God pleasure as you work for him. What this means is that the most menial and unpleasant of jobs are sacred for the Christian. They are a part of your spiritual worship. God is glorified in you just as much as when you take orders at the drive-through as when you are doing that one thing you are most gifted at and called to.

Let me encourage you to not be idle, but to take whatever job you can and glorify the Lord there until he gives you something better. Work hard. Put in full hours. In doing so you not only glorify God and fulfill part of your purpose, but you also become less of a burden on others and are enabled to bless those around you. Loving God and your neighbor requires you to work hard now.

Romans 15:5-6

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Thoughts on today’s verse
Unity comes from God’s Spirit as we follow Jesus. But unity has a purpose much deeper than our getting along with each other. Jesus prayed that we would be one so the world would know that God sent him (John 17). We want to be united so our praise can bring glory to God. Unity is far more than a goal, it is a process through which the world learns of Jesus and we glorify the Father who sent him and saved us. Can you think of anything more fundamental to our faith than that!
Prayer:
Great and Almighty God, Eternal Strength for all who call on your name, I apologize and ask your forgiveness for everything I’ve done and every word I’ve spoken that has hurt someone in your family and brought a wound to the unity of your Church. Please bless my efforts as I seek less of my will and more for your glory and the encouragement of others. Through Jesus I ask it. Amen.

Thank the Lord that we are blessed with unmerited favor and blessings from the Lord.
Let’s be real. Look at your life and be honest.  How many messes did you make in your life, the God has fixed.  How many messes did you make worst by trying to fix them your self.  We are not pointing fingers, we have done this ourselves.  What about the very things we allow to be in our homes and life’s, while believing God to fix “IT” that are hindering Him.
We sit there and ask and believe, while we watch television shows and movies, read books and magazines that you would not want God to know about.  Come on we can hear some of us saying ‘just close your eyes Lord at this part’  or better yet ‘this one little cuss word or paragraph is okay, after all, it is the real world.’  Think about all the mess the Lord looks at all day, everyday.
Yes we are more blessed than we deserve.  Don’t we serve a Mighty God.
We just thought you might want to think about this a bit.
God Bless

A junior-high student was studying astronomy and enjoying it greatly.

One morning at breakfast she mentioned, "On Friday we're having a quiz on the
moon."

Her little brother piped up: "Are you gonna let her go, Mom??"

No Separation from the Love of God

Romans 8:38-39

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

As we conclude this eighth chapter of Romans, we now come to two of my personal favorite verses. Let me break it down:

“For I am convinced” means that Paul knows this to be true.

“Death” cannot separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. Acts 7:55-56 describes some of the events leading up to the death of Stephen, the Church’s first martyr: “Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. ‘Look,’ he said, ‘I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.’” This is the only record of Jesus standing in heaven. The response of many who are threatened with death for the Name of Jesus is to say to their tormentors: “Great, you will be sending me home!” You cannot defeat people with that kind of faith.

“Life” is sometimes more difficult than death. In fact, living joyfully after tragedy strikes, can be challenging at best. Yet we know nothing life throws at us — whether temptation, tribulation, trial, disease, or hunger — can separate us from Him who loves us.

“Neither angels nor demons” I believe refers to fallen angels and others within the spiritual realm who serve Satan. Ephesians 6:12: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” The believer is not to fear dark forces (Luke 10:19-20): “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

“Neither the present nor the future” means that whatever is going on presently or potentially (in the future) — whether global, national or personal — will separate us from the love of God.

“Powers” I believe relates to forces within the world. This would include satanic influences upon government, the judicial and legal systems, banking, and overall political structure.

“Nor height nor depth nor anything else in creation” means we need never fear the unknown. Rather, exploration of the oceans and heavens will continue to reveal the inadequacies of scientific explanations without acknowledgement of the Creator.

The Bible is a love story. It is the account of a loving God in pursuit of a love relationship with His creation. It’s not about law, logic or reason. It’s about love. We entered this chapter with no condemnation; and we have concluded with no separation. In between we’ve discovered “that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” What a glorious message Paul has presented!

Spencer said, “If Holy Scripture were a ring and the epistle to the Romans its precious stone, chapter eight would be the sparkling point of the jewel.” I think his statement pretty well sums up my opinion of chapter eight. It is simply amazing! I sincerely hope it has been as much a blessing to you in reading, as it has been to me in researching and writing the commentary. Now onward to chapter nine!
to chapter nine!

HOW TO FIND YOUR GIFT OF CONTENTMENT AND PEACE

HOW TO FIND YOUR GIFT OF CONTENTMENT AND PEACE

WRITTEN BY SHIRLEY RHODES

We as Children of God are living in a fasted paste time frame, and as we live and breathe in all that God has set before us, we seem to find little time for the most precious gift of them all, and that is the gift ofCONTENTMENT AND PEACE.

Now let me explain, what the word of God says about CONTENTMENT; “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5 ESV)

Therefore, I encourage you to understand that CONTENTMENT destroys jealously and helps celebrate success in others, it is a trait found deep within and shines forth as light. Through your ownCONTENTMENT you’re able to find peace and strength to endure what otherwise would push you to the breaking point.

CONTENTMENT unclaimed, un-recognized hinders ones’ FREEDOM; therefore, they will never truly be free unless this treasured source is tapped into; as the saying goes, “CONTENTMENT is great gain.” The amazing thing about CONTENTMENT is that it is instilled in each of us. Jesus has taught and given the gift of love and that love is unconditional love for all people.

CONTENTMENT is thankfulness for what God has already done in your life; with that, your gifts will bud and blossom touching lives in many ways some in which you may never know. Always remember this one thing; never allow anyone or anything to take away your confidence (faith) in God because he loves you without restrictions, when you allow him to become who you are. It is in Christ you can find PEACE and CONTENTMENT, much different than what the world offers.

Now I Encourage you to Find CONTENTMENT is all you are purposed to do and be at PEACE.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

– Romans 8:35 (NIV)

Today’s commentary
by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org

It is always good to remember that our problems are, for the most part, 1st world problems. We are not facing famine, nakedness, danger or potential death for our faith, whereas many of our brothers and sisters in other parts of the world are facing issues of this magnitude. We stand on the legacy of past Christians who suffered greatly for their faith, so let’s take time to pray for those who are suffering greatly for the gospel today.

Many are upset now at the disobedience that is going on in our schools.  In my area one more school is closing, it is the third in our area.  Two hundred fifty teachers will not be returning to the class rooms and so many bus drivers have left that they are opening the employment doors to non high school graduates.  Why?  The teachers and bus drivers are feed up with the disobedience in the schools.

There is no where I go that I do not hear of students picking on other students and only when the picked on students gets fed up and reacts, take one guess who gets in trouble.  Nothing is being done to the students that are causing the problems.

Is there a solution?  Yes there is, but it is not one that the school system is willing to take.

PUT THE BIBLE AND PRAYER BACK IN SCHOOLS!!  So simple, yes it is.  When we look at the Bible and read the Word of God we see repeatedly where there is disobedience there is confusion, mayhem, destruction, and finally death.  But the schools do not want to offend anyone.

What can we do?  We might not be able to talk to these children or their parents; we might not be able to go on school property; not go into the homes in our neighborhoods; but, what we can do is pray.  Yes, sit right there in your homes and pray; go to your schools and park your car, or sit on a bench and pray.

Someone told me years ago that one person could not make a difference.  That is a lie!  Start at home with your own children, and then take on the children in your area, the schools.

Let’s be honest we can put Bibles and pray back in the schools.  It might not be visible to the naked eye but we can bring about chance.

God Bless
