For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I was talking with a seminary professor, and he was telling me about a seminar dialog he had with scholars from other faiths. He was asked to give a presentation on Evangelical Christianity, including the message of salvation, eternal life, and the person of Jesus Christ. So he emphatically said yes.
After he finished his presentation, others in the seminar began to ask him questions. A debate ensued on the need for atonement for our sins. Finally, this professor plainly told them, “The reason you don’t see a need for the atoning death of Christ is because you don’t have a concept of sin.”
He went on, “Until you have a concept of sin as offensive and utterly repulsive before God, then no, you won’t see a need for the death of Jesus Christ.”
One question I’m often asked is why I preach so much about the ugliness of sin. And the answer is that if we don’t have a right idea of what sin is, then we can never truly understand the Gospel and the grace of God.
Our sin is repulsive to God. Yet in Christ, we stand completely forgiven and free from condemnation. So thank God today that if you’re in Christ, you’ll never face judgment for your sin!
SIN IS REPULSIVE TO GOD. SO THANK GOD THAT THROUGH FAITH IN THE DEATH AND RESURRECTION OF CHRIST, YOU’LL NEVER BE JUDGED FOR IT!
